Wind, Dust And Afternoon Sun
Out toward the south end of the valley there is more open ground, and with it wind, blowing dust and long afternoons of sun. Dust gets ground into the grain, sprinklers leave mineral marks along the bottom boards, and the stain wears fastest on the side that faces the sun. A real restoration starts with a thorough pre-wash to get the grime out of the wood, then strips what is left of the old finish before a new stain goes on.
